About the Goldfields
underline

Kalgoorlie – Boulder is the heart of the Western Australian Goldfields. There literally is gold in them ye’ hills!

Gold was first discovered in Kalgoorlie by Paddy Hannan in 1893 and the finds are still plentiful today, by huge scale mining operations to the humble gold prospector.

Anyone can have a chance to find their own Kalgoorlie gold nugget, as long as you obtain a West Australian Miners Right and are aware of laws and regulations surrounding the hobby. Please contact the Department of Industry and Resources – DOIR – for more information on (08) 9021 9418 or visit their website www.doir.wa.gov.au

If you don’t have a WA Miners Right or a metal detector then let us take care of it for you and join us on a Half Day Gold Prospecting Adventure.

On a half day Gold Fever Prospecting Adventure, our experienced guide, will teach you how to use a metal detector in the Goldfields and yes, sets you loose to find your own gold nugget. The best part is, if you find gold, you can keep it!

*Please note that if you would like to continue gold prospecting outside of the Half Day Gold Fever Adventure, you will need to obtain a Miners Right. Detector hire and sales of new and serviced second-hand Minelab metal detectors are available from Finders Keepers. Please visit our online store or contact our friendly team for more information.

If gold prospecting isn’t for you, then why not hop on-board the Finders Keepers Super Pit Tour. On the Super Pit Tour you will be visitor inducted to KCGM Super Pit and view first-hand the mining and milling operations from the safety of the Finders Keepers vehicle. Be amazed by the size of the machinery and watch a Komatsu PC 8000 Face Shovel load a CAT 793 Haul Truck from the internal lookout, Harvey Hut.

Did you know, that up to 850’000 ounces of gold a year are produced from the Fimiston Open Pit (Super Pit) and the underground operation at Mount Charlotte? That’s a lot of GOLD!
