Detector Hire & General Information

Minelab Metal Detector Hire
Minelab Metal detector hire is available from Finders Keepers Gold Prospecting Adventures. We recommend you pre-book your metal detector in advance to avoid disappointment. If you have never done prospecting before it is recommended to participate on the half day Gold Prospecting tour prior to hiring a metal detector, to give you an understanding of how to use your Minelab metal detector and what indicators to look for.

Are you unsure if you’re using your Minelab metal detector properly?

Then we recommend booking onto the Half Day Advanced Training and make sure you bring your metal detector along so we can teach you how to use it properly. Hopefully we will get you on your way to finding that lovely, shinny, GOLD stuff!!
Please pre-book to avoid disappointment and at the time of booking please notify us what model detector you will be bringing along.

Prospecting requirements
Please note: A Western Australian miners right is required to prospect in W.A.
Permission from lease holder and the pastoral lease holder is also required before any prospecting can take place. Please contact Dept of Industry and Resources for further information: (08 9021 9418)

Not Sure where to start looking:
Due to the numerous mining & pastoral leases held around the Kalgoorlie-Boulder region we recommend contacting:

The Department of Industry & Resources (opposite the Police Station) Brookman Street, Kalgoorlie.
Ph – (08) 9021 9418 (Monday to Friday)
The Department of Industry & Resources also has an online Tenegraph service that is up to date and free of charge
http://www.doir.wa.gov.au/aboutus/tengraph_online.asp
It gives a current and accurate picture of land under mining activity. New tenement applications and boundary changes are immediately recorded.

Health & Safety in the bush
We recommend that you use a GPS (Global Positioning System) when prospecting to ensure you are in your approved prospecting area and not straying onto another lease. This is also a great way to safely make it back to your vehicle.
A 2 way radio (Central Broadcasting System) or Satelite Phone is also recommended in the event of being in an isolated area without mobile phone reception.

Don’t forget to take a spare tyre for your car, a first aid kit, a minimum of 5 litres of water/day/person, warm and appropriate clothing (remember the days are hot, but the nights can get dreadfully cold) and of course Slip, Slop, Slap (sunscreen & hat).
In the event of an emergency in the Kalgoorlie–Boulder area;
Ambulance 9021 1599     Hospital 9080 5888     Police 9021 9777

The Goldfields Bushland
Please remember to fill in all detector holes and take all rubbish with you. All that should be left are your footprints.
In spring the Goldfields come alive with vibrant colours of our native wildflowers. Please admire them, but do not pick them as hefty fines can be incurred. Contact the Tourist Info Centre to find out areas that are flowering. Ph – (08) 9021 1966
Around the Goldfields you will come across many deserted townsites, please explore these sites, but leave them how you found them.

Lastly and most importantly, have a great time and let the GOLD fever begin! GOODLUCK
